WEC 52 displayed to the world why WEC fighters are some of the best in the world. They’re just so exciting. Four out of the five main card fights were finished and if you were able to see the Cub Swanson vs. Mackens Semerzier on the undercard, I can’t wait for these fighters to shine a bit more under the UFC banner. Also, I was 5-0 in my predictions! Boo yah!
1. Urijah Faber makes a statement in the 135lb Division
Just like I said, Urijah Faber was looking to prove something in his debut at Bantamweight, and boy did he ever. He looked faster and still had the power of a Featherweight. Takeya Mizugaki stood his ground though and never quit to the bitter end. Once Urijah took Takeya’s back, it was only a matter of time before he was going to synch in a choke. What a fight!
(+1) Prediction: Urijah Faber over Takeya Mizugaki
2. Another typical decision win for Chad Mendes
Another vintage Chad Mendes fight. Mendes wins once again on top of his opponent th majority of the fight. The only exciting part of this fight was the front flip paired with a monkey roll during the second round. I really thought Mendes should have stood and struck more with Javier Vazquez since he definitely had an advantage there. Eventually this kid is going to be exciting, but today he just wasn’t.
(+1) Prediction: Chad Mendes over Javier Vazquez

On the heels of the UFC/WEC merger, WEC 52 is one of the last two WEC branded events Zuffa will be putting on. Now, all the eyes are on the WEC and they better come out swinging. Fans who have never heard of the WEC are going to tune in and see what the fuss is all about surrounding these lighter fighters, and hopefully they’ll be satisfied. Who better to showcase the WEC than none other than Mr. WEC himself, Urijah Faber.
1. Urijah Faber shows the world what the WEC is all about
Urijah Faber has a lot to prove at WEC 52. As the face of the WEC, he’ll have to represent for the roster and show the world the lighter fighters are as exciting as the fighters in the UFC. Also, this is his first fight back after getting picked apart by Jose Aldo and at a new weight class. He’ll look stronger and faster at the lighter weight and unfortunately for Takeya Mizugaki — he’ll be on the receiving end of a bat out of hell. Look for Urijah to put on constant pressure with his dynamic striking/wrestling, but he won’t be able to take out Takeya. Great fight.
Prediction: Urijah Faber over Takeya Mizugaki via unanimous decision
2. Chad Mendes continues his winning ways
I’ll be honest, I’m not excited to see Chad Mendes fight because he’s just like every other one-dimensional wrestler in the MMA game. Although, against Javier Vazquez — he’ll be showing a whole new side of himself. Instead of just taking his opponent down and throwing some shots here and there — he’ll come in with some powerful ground and pound. Seems like some of the Team Alpha Male fighters showed him a thing or two.
Prediction: Chad Mendes over Javier Vazques via TKO
