5 Great MMA Photos at UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III from Esther Lin
Billed as one of the most stacked cards of 2011, all of the fighters came out and proved the promoters right. If you wanted grueling fights, you got that with Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan. If you wanted submissions, you got that with Joe Lauzon and Chael Sonnen. If you wanted charisma, you got that and then some with Sonnen’s post-fight interview. If you wanted to see what legends are made of, you got that with Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard. Another great card, and now a break until UFC 137.
Weigh-In Photos for UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III
To get back into the swing of things, what better to do it with UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III. Not only do you have a rubber match with two solid Lightweights, we’re treated with another championship fight with Jose Aldo and a Middleweight contenders match with Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann. This card is sick, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.
Day 13: Best fight you have seen live (this can be pro or amateur) It’s got to be the Leonard Garcia vs. Chan Sung Jung fight at UFC Fight Night 24. The whole crowd was ready and hyped up for this fight because you knew both fighters were wanting to come in and win on the heels of their first matchup together. Not only did they do that, but the Korean Zombie did it in amazing fashion.
The Korean Zombie ended the fight with a twister, the first in UFC history. He even mentioned that he learned the move from watching Eddie Bravo on Youtube. It’s amazing what you can learn on the internet these days.
UFC Fight Night 24 was my first UFC event, and it didn’t disappoint. From the 12 fights they billed for the event, to the party atmosphere even between rounds — it was everything I expected and more. If you have yet to watch a UFC event, I strongly encourage you to check your local listings and see if they’re coming to your town because it’s definitely an experience to remember.
From the beginning at 3pm for the first fight, KeyArena in Seattle was already half filled. At that point, I knew this was going to be a loud and fun event. We were able to see some great submissions, a knockout, and battles that’ll make you say “Wow!”. The two fights that stood out for me was the battle between Michael McDonald vs. Edwin Figueroa and the “twister” submission between Chan Sung Jung vs. Leonard Garcia. I just remember how the crowd roared during both fights and how I was constantly jumping out of my seat . Unforgettable.
The time when “Baba O’Reilly” by The Who came on, it finally felt like a UFC event. They play that music and video montage, you can’t help but get hyped up. And that was the theme of the whole event. Non-stop action from the fights, videos, fans and even the DJ playing music between fights — it never let up. Six hours of fights, and I can’t wait to do it again. UFC 131 in Vancouver?

QUESTION: If you’ve experienced a UFC event, how was your experience?
UFC Fight Night 24 was a night where “The Korean Zombie” stole the show. The crowd in Seattle roared when Chan Sung Jung snapped on that rare submission called the “twister” — the first in UFC history. Along with that, did we witness the rise of Phil Davis? On top of those fights, the UFC literally showed another 8 fights to their fans through Facebook and Spike TV.
1. Phil Davis continues his winning streak against Lil’ Nog
Phil Davis took this fight against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira when Tito Ortiz dropped out due to injury. Prior to Nogueira, Davis hasn’t faced this type of competition where he’s going against a slick boxer and Brazilian Jui-Jitsu black belt. During the first round, you saw the experience difference where Nogueira kept Davis at bay with his striking and takedown defense. Although, in the later rounds, the persistance by the NCAA Division I All-American kept at it and eventually took Lil’ Nog to the ground. The next two rounds were mathematical where Davis was able to control the fight on the ground. I think he’s going to work on his hands to improve his striking, but who’s next for this up and comer?
2. Anthony Johnson tricks Dan Hardy and outwrestles him
The pre-fight hype for this fight surrounded both Anthony Johnson and Dan Hardy chatting it up that they were both going to stand and bang. Little did Hardy know, Johnson seemed to have a different game plan. Initially they were both up for a shootout and then Johnson landed a head kick, then the wrestler came out of Johnson. Throughout the rest of the fight, Johnson consistently took down Hardy at will and finished the fight on top.
