5 Great MMA Photos at UFC 138: Leben vs. Munoz from Sherdog

The main card had 5 finishes/stoppages. Every fight ended via submission or TKO. Now that’s an exciting fight card no matter what people thought before hand. I was really impressed with Terry Etim, Renan Barao, and Mark Munoz. They all made a statement and I’d be excited to see what they do next.

Weigh-In Photos for UFC 138: Leben vs. Munoz

All I know is that the Crippler and the Filipino Wrecking Machine are headlining this card and you know these two are going to bang. I’m excited to also see both Brad Pickett and Terry Etim fight again. Also, after finally making weight on the second attempt — I’d like to see Thiago Alves continue his way back up the top.

UFC 136 Main Card:

  • Chris Leben vs. Mark Muñoz
  • Brad Pickett vs. Renan Barão
  • Thiago Alves vs. Papy Abedi
  • Cyrille Diabaté vs. Anthony Perosh
  • Terry Etim vs. Eddie Faaloloto

5 Predictions for UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill

UFC 130 was a super stacked card, and you can really see it because after Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard pulled out of the main event due to injuries — the card still looked amazing. There’s a lot of implications here for a lot of the weight divisions.

  • Rampage vs. Hamill looks to be a #1 Light HW Contender matchup
  • Mir vs. Nelson gets a crack at the winner of Dos Santos vs. Carwin
  • Alves vs. Story looks to shake up the Welterweight Division
  • Stann vs. Santiago looks to shake up the Middleweight Division

1. Rampage is evolving as a fighter and will incorporate more wrestling

On paper, this looks to be a perfect for fight for Matt Hamill since he’s a premier wrestler and we all saw what Rashad Evans was able to do to Rampage Jackson with his wrestling. Although, I really don’t see that happening again. Look for Rampage to mix it up and catch Hamill with an uppercut or a knee in the fight to end it.

Prediction: Rampage Jackson via TKO

2. A slimmer Roy Nelson beats Frank Mir everywhere the fight goes

Both Frank Mir and Roy Nelson are premier Heavyweights in the UFC, but this fight is definitely going to rocket one of them back into the Championship picture. I really think Nelson is starting to figure out that he needs to up his game (and lose some weight) to start fulfilling his potential and I think he’s going to do that against Mir. I see this being a grappling match with the clinch and ground game highlighted. Big Country FTW!

Prediction: Roy Nelson via unanimous decision

Top 10 MMA Fighters Who Need To Lose Weight in 2011

Everyone needs a New Year’s resolution, so I’m happy to help some MMA fighters with a resolution that will bode well for them in 2011. Some are in need of some serious fitness classes, and others just need some nutrition help. Either way, they need to substitute some of their chubbiness with some toned muscle. I expect big things from these fighters if they do. Enjoy!

10. Tyson Griffin — A move down to Featherweight is needed

When the UFC absorbed the Featherweight Division from the WEC, Tyson Griffin should have been jumping for joy. He’s already lost three straight against Lightweights, and he’s definitely a smaller fighter than the Lightweight Division he’s been fighting in. Tyson needs to make the move and drop down to the Featherweight Division in order to challenge for the title.

9. Thiago Alves — Stay on diet or move up to Middleweight

Thiago Alves needs to continue to tone himself down when he fights. He’s a huge Welterweight, but would be a small Middleweight if he’s unable to make Welterweight. It seems like he’s got his stuff together in his last fight against John Howard, but there’s no time to slack now. When Dana White is eyeing your weight like a hawk, you better make weight.

8. Karo Parisyan — Take MMA seriously, or retire

If anyone needs to start taking their MMA career seriously, it’s Karo Parisyan. He has so much talent, but he’s been battling some harsh personal demons that’s preventing him to perform to his ability. He needs to move to Las Vegas, bring his family, and start taking this seriously by getting into condition. There was just too much flab when he fought Dennis Hallman.

7. Mayhem Miller - Cut the weight and face Nick Diaz

Nick Diaz vs. Mayhem Miller needs to happen. There’s been too much drama and smack talking both ways that these two fighters won’t fight each other. I think if Mayhem wants the fight, he needs to take the bullet and cut down to 170lbs to face the Strikeforce Welterweight Champion. His next fight should be in the Welterweight Division for a tune up fight, then on to the next one…Nick Diaz.

6. Josh Barnett — The Babyface Assassin could lose some baby fat

Josh Barnett always seemed to have a little bit of jelly around the waist when he fights, but he’s been able to pull through just from his shear skills and talent. Similar to Roy, but not to the extreme of losing over 30 pounds — Barnett should tone up to face the new crop of Heavyweights.
